Jordan is my older sister and the namesake of the Jordan Elizabeth Harris Foundation. Jordan died by suicide in 2012. She was 22 years old and I was 18. Her death has had a profound impact on my life. I lost my big sister, my best friend and the most influential person in my life. Not a day goes by that I don’t long to pick up the phone and give her a call, but I know that she’s never too far away.
Jordan’s death was a wake-up call to our community that depression, suicide, and mental health overall needs to be take more seriously. Millions of people, like Jordan, suffer in silence and feel like they have no where else to turn. I will work for the rest of my life to try and erase the stigma associated with depression and suicide, and to let those suffering know that things will get better
