My wife Lezlie Culver passed by suicide on July 10, 2021.
My wife Lezlie Culver passed by suicide on July 10, 2021. This is a terrible example of how mental illness impacts even the most knowledgeable on depression and suicide awareness. Lezlie grew up in a very dysfunctional family, marked by mental abuse, depression, and suicide. Lezlie lost her Mother and her Sister to suicide. Lezlie has always been focused on helping others, she received a Social Work Degree from the University of Oklahoma and a Masters in Social Work at UT Arlington. She started LOSSTeam, Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors, which Mental Health Resources of America continues to support. Lezlie woke up every day with the goal of helping others struggling and helping remove the stigma of depression and suicide. Tragically Lezlie didn’t listen to her own teachings and the depression took over. We know the Lezlie that passed that day was not the Lezlie we all know…again a terrible example of the impact of depression. We will all remember her strong personality, dedication to serving others, sense of humor, laugh, incredible ability to make you feel like you’re the most important person in the room, dedicated friend, and great Mother. So I ride for Lezlie, Lezlie’s mother, Mary Madalene, her sister, Dayna Lynn, and my daughter Madalene Leman Culver. Madalene I love you, we are both strong and we are stronger together. Let’s all work toward the vision of a world without depression and suicide.
